Felt to Dye For & Fiber Fusion: Create with mixed Media
with Karin Skacel & Rick Mondragon
But wait, there’s more!

Rick Mondragon will co-pilot you through this mixed-media design lab. Here’s a chance to
build on your dyed felt or fabrics and immerse yourself in techniques, tools, and materials—familiar and unexpected. Try them all or focus on your favorites.

Embellish with embroidery, paints, stencils, stamps, and dyes. Build a collage with fabrics, notions, and fibers. Bring a well-worn item and give it a new life. Use your knitting and crochet skills as game changers. Nothing is off limits.

Get ready to clothe and surround yourself with items that show your unique personality.
Make the best of hand-made!

From Editor of Knitter’s Magazine to host of Stitches Studio, Rick has vast experience in the fiber arts: everything from yarn and thread to wovens and knits through finished garments and sweaters. Now the designer and teacher in Rick is ready for fiber fusion!

Karin was the first to experiment with Artfelt® paper and is the leading authority in North America. Through trial and error, she has discovered many of its possibilities. She has been involved in the artistic crafts industry her entire life and is currently President of Skacel Collection, Inc.

Working with felt to create clothing and accessories is easy, on trend, and truly exciting. Felt can be thick or thin, in any color, pattern, or print. It will hold just about any shape or no shape at all, and absolutely never frays. What could be better?

Design and make your own felt then create with it! Karin invites you into the world of all-materials felt. She’ll show you how to design and create fabric from scratch using labor-saving Artfelt® paper and other methods. Discover how quickly you can make wafer-thin yardage that can drape your body for a cut-and-sew dress or super thick pieces for creating bags and accessories. Learn how to incorporate beads, locks, silk, rayon, and yes, even cotton fabric, for added texture, design and dimension.

Karin then introduces you to Shibori dyeing—a popular movement in the fashion industry. Discover this ancient way of dyeing, as well as eco-printing, with items both bought and found.

Then continue playing with color, embellishment, and 3-D effects as you explore ways to make your felt even more personal and unique. Leave with samples of your own design and the inspiration and knowledge to continue to develop your own fabulous, dyed felt!
