Spinning for Socks with Janel Laidman
Socks are hard-wearing garments that benefit from durable yarns. Explore the best fibers, blends, and yarn structures for these wonderful foot coverings while learning how to get handsome color effects from that hand-painted roving in your stash. Explore superwash, blends, carry-along thread, twist, plies, and (of course) color! For anyone who can spin a continuous thread using a drop spindle or wheel (students should be familiar with their wheel). Materials fee: $12 for a variety of fiber blends.
Supplies
Spinning wheel or spindle, 3 extra bobbins, and lazy kate.Optional: ball winder. Materials fee: $12 for a variety of fiber blends. Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
