Intro to Twined Knitting with Beth Brown-Reinsel
Are you curious about the 400-year-old Swedish technique of twined —or two-end—knitting? In this introductory class, knit one of a pair of wristers while learning a traditional cast-on, twined knit and purl, patterning (the O stitch, the crook stitch, and chain path). We'll discuss managing your yarns and reading two-end charts.
One skein of #4 (worsted weight), wool yarn, preferably light-colored and smooth textured (No single ply yarns!); one set of 4 or 4.5mm/US 6 or 7 double pointed needles or two circulars of any length; stitch markers, sticky notes or a magnetic board to keep one's place on the chart.
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
Wind your yarn into a center pull ball if it is not already a pull-skein. Find both ends of the ball before class.
Note: must be comfortable with double pointed needles or working with two circulars. The ability to knit English style (yarn held in the right hand) is helpful but not required.
