50 grams smooth, light-colored, #4 (worsted-weight) yarn; 4.5 mm/US 7 straight or circular needles or size to match yarn; crochet hook, size 4.25 mm or 5mm/US G or H; 3 stitch holders; 3 stitch markers; safety pins; scissors.
Swatch 1: Cast on 20 stitches. Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for approximately 2" (end after working a purl row). Do not bind off. Do not cut yarn.
