Intro to Combining Lace & Cable Patterns with Kathy Zimmerman
Lace & cable techniques both delight and challenge knitters with variety in shape, design, and texture. Creative combinations of the 2 can result in truly artistic knitting. Kathy will discuss the importance of gauge, treating the 2 pattern stitches as a unit, interpreting chart symbols, and tips for keeping track of patterns. The class project is a scarf combining a basic rope cable with a simple
openwork/mini-honeycomb panel based on Kathy's popular 'Ube' cardigan
from Knitter's Issue 99. The lacy oval columns alternate with mirrored rope cables for elegant textured stitch work.
#4 (worsted-weight) yarn (450 yds needed to complete scarf); 4.5 or 5 mm/US 7 or 8 needles; row counter
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
