Adventures in Bead Knitting Land with Betsy Hershberg
Let’s spend two entire days together, playing with beads and yarn! Here’s the deal: You bring lots of great “bead-able” yarns from your stash and an assortment of your favorite glass seed beads, and I’ll share tons of bead-knitting techniques, bead-worthy stitch patterns, and project instructions for both a fabulous stretchy bracelet and a belt that we’ll work on in class. And the best part? These projects will each be one-of-a-kind because YOU will design them! Lots of time for discussions about color, yarn and bead combinations, as many “What if’s” as we can come up with, and some left-brained creativity talk along the way.
Materials fee: $25 for metal belt buckle, 2 sizes of elastic, and a beading needle
Assortment of double-pointed needles in 2.75mm to 4mm/US 2 to 6 to accommodate the weight of the stash yarns you bring; at least 10 (and up to as many as you’d like to bring for use or sharing) small balls of #3 (DK) or #2 (sport weight) smooth finish yarn in both solid and variegated color ways (wool or wool blend preferred, no cotton or acrylic please); sewing needle and thread (any color); 6-10 colors of size 6 glass seed beads that you will be happy combining with the colors of yarn you bring.
Bring 10 - 20 grams (110 - 220 beads, a medium to large tube) OF EACH COLOR and look forward to swapping with others.
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
