What is Pleasurable Finishing? with Deborah Newton
Come hear Deborah talk about her love of finishing, and learn to make this part of your sweater-making a delight and an inspiration. With a visual presentation and some hands-on work, Deborah will catalog the high points of her process that takes knitted pieces and transforms them—with ease and pleasure—into a detailed sweater that expresses the knitter's own choices. Some of the finishing techniques will be explored in class.
Please bring the needles you used for your swatch as well as two more sets of needles, the 2 sizes smaller; a small and a large tapestry needles.
Choose an allover textured pattern (a knit/purl pattern, such as Moss stitch, is fine) and a cable of your choice, any width, and work your swatch as follows:
With a worsted weight yarn or heavier, cast on enough stitches to make a large swatch, approximately 8-10” wide.
RS row: k2 (keep these edge sts in Stockinette St: k RS, p WS), work textured pattern over the next ___ sts, place marker, work cable pattern over the center ___ sts, place marker, work textured pattern over the next ___ sts, k2 (keep these edge sts in Stockinette St: k RS, p WS).
Work even as established until your swatch is a little longer than square. Bind off.
