Scandinavian Multi-color Knitted Textures, Zigzags, and Braids with Laura Farson
Learn decorative edge treatments found on garments in Norway and Sweden. Beginning with a basic cast-on and its derivatives including variations on long-tail and German-twisted cast-on, and traditional twine-knit cast-on with multiple strands, we'll make braids and colorful textures with twine knit and purl rounds. Practice yarn-management for color work and center-pull ball-winding techniques. Note: Must know long-tail cast-on and how to work in the round on 2 circulars or 4 dpn.
1oz/25g each #4 (worsted-weight) 100% wool yarn (Cascade 220 or equiv.) in red, black, and white; two 4.5mm/US 7 — 16" circular needle, or 4 dpn.
Optional: $1.00 materials fee for a winding stick and clips.
Wind yarn into balls.
Note: Students should be familiar with the long tail cast on.
