Nuno-Felted Scarf with Judy Pascale
Use an ancient Japanese art form to create a featherweight, contemporary, Nuno-felted scarf that drapes beautifully. Coax fibers to easily penetrate a piece of silk, and the result is a highly-textured accessory scarf. You will also learn to accent this scarf using hand-dyed silk hankies.
Note: Must be able to stand for much of the class. Materials fee: $10 for rovings and $15 for a hand-dyed silk scarf.
3 bath towels, 1 four-quart plastic bowl (example: Glad or Ziploc) or a bowl from home, plastic grocery bag for wet towels, plastic soap container, sharp pointed pair of scissors (I will also have mine), felting soap, bed risers (Bed, Bath & Beyond to raise the table to waist level).
Soaps which work as felting soap: Olive Oil Soap (found in a whole foods or health food store), Canus Goat's Milk Soap, or Dionis Goats Milk Soap. Any one of these soaps is fine. I will bring some for you to tryout. If you cannot find any, you will still be all set.
Optional: waterproof apron
Materials fee: $15 for hand dyed silk and $10 for small bags of roving, silk hankies, and beads, etc.
If you have fine mohair in a color you love, bring it. It felts in nicely.
NOTE: Dress comfortably. This is a full day so we need to start right on time.
