Crazy Lace Borders and Edgings with Myra Wood
Beautiful borders add so much to simple lace shawls. Learn how to knit or sew a border onto any triangular or circular shawl using traditional and improvisational methods. Charts for borders will be explored as well.
Bring at least 75 yds of the same yarn used for the main triangle, two size 5 DPNS, 6 stitch markers.
Knit a triangle as follows:
With fingering weight yarn and size 5 circular needles, cast on 3 stitches.
Row 1 (RS) K1, yo, k1, yo, k1. (5 stitches).
Row 2 and all even-numbered rows Purl.
Row 3 K1, yo, k1, PM, k1, PM, k1, yo, k1. (7 stitches).
Row 5 and all odd-numbered rows: K1, yo, knit to first marker, yo, slip marker, knit center stitch, slip marker, yo, knit to last st, yo, k1.
Continue to increase after the first stitch, before and after the center stitch and before the last stitch on every other row until triangle is at least 12" x 12" from side to side blocked. Leave last row of stitches on circular needles.
