Portuguese Style of Knitting with Andrea Wong
During this workshop, knitters will have the opportunity to
learn and practice the style of knitting which is in Greece, Portugal, Egypt, and Turkey. The main characteristic is that
the yarn is either wrapped behind the neck or looped through a pin
attached to the shoulder in order to maintain a constant tension. Advantages of knitting Portuguese style include:
it’s faster than either the American or Continental styles, it requires less hand movement – great for those suffering from
Arthritis or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and
it helps maintain constant tension even for beginners. Blind knitters are overjoyed because they always know where the yarn
is – the yarn is never dropped.
Optional Material Fee: $5.00 for knitting pin.
#3 (worsted-weight) yarn in 2 contrasting colors; circular or straight needles, size 4.5 or 5.0mm (US 7 or 8) and 16" circular needle in same size range.
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
