Organic Stitchery: Novel Stitch Patterns Taken from Nature with Melissa Leapman
In this hands-on workshop, explore dimensional stitch patterns that resemble flora and fauna. We'll knit a cabled butterfly motif, an embossed oak leaf, and more. Even Mother Nature herself will be impressed!

Supplies
Five homework swatches; appropriate knitting needles; two size 6 double-pointed needles; sticky notes.

Homework

Work all swatches with a smooth, worsted weight yarn, preferably wool, in a light color and appropriate size knitting needles.
Swatch 1
CO 23 sts. Work k1, p1 rib for 1". Begin with a knit row, work 6 rows of stockinette stitch. Slip stitches onto a holder with approximately 6 yds of yarn still attached.
Swatch 2
CO 35 sts. Work k1, p1 rib for 1". Purl one row. Slip stitches onto a holder with approximately 8 yards of yarn still attached.
Swatch 3 CO 27 sts. Work k1, p1 rib for 1". Beg with a knit row, work 7 rows of stockinette stitch. Slip sts onto a holder with approximately 6 yds of yarn still attached.
Swatch 4
CO 23 sts. Work k1, p1
rib for 1". Beg with a knit row, work 7 rows of stockinette stitch. Slip stitches onto a holder with approximately 6 yards of yarn still attached.
Swatch 5
CO 48 sts. Work k1, p1 rib for 1". Beg with a knit row, work 7 rows of stockinette stitch. Slip stitches onto a holder with approximately 20 yards of yarn still attached.
