Advanced Double Knitting with Gwen Bortner
Take your double knitting to a whole new level. If you have played with traditional two-color double knitting, you know there are limitations. Not everything looks correct when reversed. However, it is possible to create a double-knit fabric with two different patterns. Learn the secrets of creating different patterns on each side of the work. Explore options for using two or three colors. Gain insights on creating your own double-knit designs. Along the way, pick up helpful hints to improve the look of your finished projects.
Note: You must already be familiar with traditional two-color double knitting.
25 gm each of a light and dark yarn in similar weight (DK - worsted recommended) and needles appropriate to yarn selected, homework swatch. Optional: A third contrasting yarn in the same weight.
Cast on 20 pairs of stitches. Work in 4 stitch x 5 row checkerboard for 10 rows total. Work 2 rows of plain double knitting. Leave on needles.
