Designing Your Own Lace: Traditions and Innovations with Janel Laidman
Those who love lace knitting often enjoy the challenge of creating their own, unique garments. We will look at various lace traditions and stitch patterns and discuss new ideas in lace knitting. Students will begin designing their own shawl or stole using an assortment of lace stitch patterns with an eye for flow and harmony of the stitches. We will discuss how to modify stitch patterns to make them work with your design, construction considerations for triangular shawls and other shapes, and effects of gauge and yarn choice on your final piece.
Lace-weight or fingering-weight yarn, 2, 2.5, 3 and 3.75mm/US 0, 1, 2 and 5 straight or circular needles.
