A Fair Isle Cowl with Antje Gillingham
![]() There are several ways to work a Fair Isle pattern but we will specifically explore holding a yarn in each hand and weaving in (tacking) the yarn floats behind the pattern as we go along. Once conquered, this is one of the fastest and smoothest ways to knit Fair Isle. The magic word to success: Practice, practice, practice. Supplies
Homework using 200 yds of #4 (worsted weight) yarn for background in a solid or semi-solid color (MC), 110 yds of #4 (worsted weight) yarn for pattern color in a solid, semi-solid or long-print variegated color which compliments background color (CC), 5mm/US 7 circular needle (24").Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes. Homework
With background (MC) color and 5mm/US 7 needle, cast on 110 sts. Being careful not to twist sts, place marker and join in the round, purl 1 round (do not cut yarn). With secondary color (CC), knit 1 round, then purl 1 round (do not cut yarn). Switch to MC and knit 1 round.
