Bavarian Twist and Traveler Stitches Sampler Hat with Laura Farson
This is a traditional Bavarian knitting technique in which stitches twist and travel in delicate intricate patterns. It is often used for socks and sweaters, but found too in mittens, gloves and hats. It has countless variations of which we will explore several choices while making a
hat worked in the round on one circular or double point needles.
Cast on for ribbing, twisted knit and traveling stitches (over and under), charts, decreases and finishing
1 skein white or cream color worsted wool (100 gm); two 16" circular needles 4.5mm/US 7, or 1 set of double point needles; stitch markers
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
Cast on120 sts using German Twisted Cast on or Long Tail Cast on, join in a circle,
*k1tbl (knit through the back loop), p1, rep from * around for 1-1/2". Leave on the needle(s).
