Waste Not: Shawls with Jolie A. Elder
If you stash or spin, then sometimes what you have is all there is. In this class, we will look at how to knit shawls without running out of yarn. We’ll consider the pros and cons of top-down and bottom-up construction as well as basic shaping. We will look at constructions that allow you to knit until you run out of yarn or swatch so that you know your limits. Students will learn garter tab beginning, Trivia cast-on, where to increase to produce various shapes, various double increases, the pros and cons of various shapes, and how to swatch with a scale for yarn management and project planning.
Smooth, non-splitting, light or bright or medium color yarn for swatching, needles to work that yarn, stitch markers, waste yarn for vertical lifelines & provisional cast-on
