* Cable needles, circular or double-pointed needles appropriate for yarns
* 2 identical shank buttons

Homework
Swatch 1 With any yarn and needles, make 2 of the following: Cast on 9 sts, * work in stockinette st for about 1”, end with a purl row.
Next Row:  k 4, yo, k 2 tog, k rem 3 sts.
Repeat from * until piece meas about 10 to 12”, bind off.
Make the other piece in another color if you can.
Swatch 2 With any yarn and needles, make I-cord as follows: Cast on 3 or 4 sts on one double pointed needle or dpn.  * With another dpn, k across.  DO NOT TURN WORK, always have RS or k side facing you.  Slide all sts to right-hand end of dpn.  String strand of yarn across back of work and rep from * until cord measures about 12", bind off.  Tug on cord slightly lengthwise.  This cord is similar to that made by "knitting knobbies" and looks like small, circular tube.  Make another 3 in same manner with other colors.  If you can’t get to them all, use very heavy yarn the same thickness as the I-cord.
 Swatch 3 With any yarn and needles, make a crocheted chain for about 24”.  Make another one or two in same manner with another color if you can but make them only 16” long.
Swatch 4 With any yarn and needles, make the following:
Cast on 7 sts, * work in stockinette st for about 1”, end with a WS row. Next Row:  k 2, yo, k 2 tog, k rem 3 sts.
Repeat from * until piece meas about 10 to 12”, bind off.
Make the other piece in another color if you can but the eyelet row is as follows:
k 4, yo, k 2 tog, k last st.
You will have 2 pieces with holes along a left side edge and a right side edge respectively.
