Saami Mittens with Beth Brown-Reinsel
Learn the special details of mitten construction of the nomadic Saami peoples, by knitting a mitten in multiple colors circularly on double-pointed needles. Make a three-color braided cast-on, create the classic afterthought thumb (without a gusset), work different bands of patterning, and finish off the mitten with pointed tip shaping. Working with three yarns in a round will be discussed as some of the motifs require this skill. A simple finger braiding technique will be demonstrated for the traditional cord.

Supplies
For an Adult Sized Pair: 2 oz each of 4 colors of #4 (worsted-weight) yarn (traditional colors are white, red, yellow, and green or blue); one set of double -pointed needles 4.0 or 4.5mm/US size 6 or 7, tapestry needle, stitch markers, sticky notes or magnetic board for reading the chart. (If you are proficient working with two circulars or the Magic Loop, you can bring the appropriate needles.)

Homework
None.
