Cables and other twisted knit stitches make for some of the most captivating knitting patterns. Though they look intricate, they are surprisingly easy to create. Learn how while knitting samplers that you can later turn into a drawstring tote bag. Along the way, you'll pick up tips for reading charts, reading your knitting, and fixing mistakes.
Smooth, light-colored, #4 (worsted weight) yarn; 4.5mm/US 7 needles or size to obtain gauge of 20 sts=4" over stockinette; cable needle; stitch markers.
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
Cast on 38 sts, leaving a 24" tail. Work 5 rows of garter st. Do *not* break yarn.
