Glorious Grannies with Margaret Hubert
Learn to make traditional Granny Squares and as many variations as time allows. We will cover different sewing methods, the invisible joining method, and many uses for this time honored technique.
2 or 3 colors of a worsted weight yarn and an 8 or H crochet hook
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
Make at least one, two alike if you would like to complete an amulet bag.
Special Stitches Used: Popcorn: make 5 double crochets in specified stitch, draw up the last loop slightly and remove hook, insert hook into the first of the 5 dc made, pick up the dropped loop and draw it through, ch 1.
Note: Worked with 3 colors A, B, C.
Foundation Rnd. With color A, ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: 8 sc in ring, join with a sl st
Rnd 2: Popcorn Rnd; Ch 3 (counts as a dc) 4 dc in same st as ch 3, complete as popcorn, ch 1 * popcorn in next sc, ch 1, repeat from * 6 times more, (8 popcorns in round), join with a sl st to top of the beg ch 3, end color A.
Rnd 3: Join color B in any ch-1 sp, ch 3 (cts as a dc now and throughout) 2 more dc in same sp (1/2 corner) * Ch 1, 3 dc next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc next ch-1 sp (corner), rep from * 2 times more, end ch 1, 3 dc next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp as beg half corner, ch 1, join with a slip st to top of beg ch 3 (this completes last corner). End color B.
Rnd 4: Join Col C in any corner ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 more dc in same sp ( half corner) * ch 1, 3 dc next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, in next ch-1 sp (corner), rep from * 2 times more, end ch 1, 3 dc next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp as beg half corner, ch 1, join with a sl st to top of beg ch 3. Fasten off.
