Be a Bead-knitting 'Show Off!' with Betsy Hershberg
Once you've learned basic bead-knitting techniques for stockinette knitting, it's time to take your bead knitting to the next level. Your favorite projects don't always use stockinette stitch. Knitters love interesting stitch patterns! They bring great texture and stunning variety to our work.
This class will help you learn to evaluate the 'beadability' of some of your stitch pattern favorites and perhaps one or two with which you are not yet familiar. Learn how to use some wonderful bead-knitting and bead-weaving techniques to show off just what makes your favorite stitch patterns so fabulous. Use a little or use a lot-it's up to you-but do show off those special knitted stitch patterns with beads!
Note: You should have experience with bead knitting before taking this class.
A small ball of smooth finish, #2 or 3 (sport or DK—nothing heavier please) weight yarn (wool or wool blend preferred, not acrylic or cotton please); appropriate knitting needles (straight or circular); a medium-sized tube of size 6 glass seed beads that can be strung on the yarn you bring (at least 200-250 beads—please check that the beads will fit on your yarn BEFORE class); big eye beading needle. Teacher will have beading needles for purchase ($2 each) if needed. If you have a size #10 or #11 steel crochet hook, please bring one. If not, Betsy will have hooks to loan for class use.
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
Please knit the following swatches with the yarn you will bring to class and appropriate sized needles for the yarn that will yield a firm gauge (US 3-6 suggested, depending on your individual tension).
You'll need to knit 4 total swatches.
