Weaving Techniques as Applied to Knits with Lily Chin
![]() Topics covered include: *The 'in/out' method method of applying a separate yarn onto knits * The slip-stitch method of using the same yarn as a 'weft' thread *Vertical weaves, color weaves, smocking weaves, and much more. The applications of these techniques include: *What kinds of yarns are best suited for these fibers *What kinds of garments are best suited for these fibers *How to chart these weaves so you'll know what you'll be getting beforehand By the end of this workshop, you will have a sample of knitted 'woven' fabrics, plus enough ideas to keep you in stitches for a very long time. At least 2 different colors of #4 (worsted weight) yarn; #2 (sport weight) yarn; #5 (bulky weight) yarn, and/or some textured/novelty yarn of any weight; 5.5mm/US 9 needles; 4mm/US 6 needles; graph paper; pencils in several colors, eraser; tapestry needle; homework swatches and needles used.Optional: Bring a wide-tooth comb if possible. Swatch 1 With any sport weight yarn and US 6 needles, cast on 17 stitches and work in k1, p1 rib for 1". Leave stitches on needles or stitch holder to be picked up and worked later.Swatch 2 With worsted weight yarn and US 9 needles, cast on 18 stitches and work in stockinette for 1", end ready to work a knit row. Leave stitches on needle or stitch holder to be picked up and worked later. Swatch 3 With worsted weight yarn and US 8 needles, seed stitch for 4" and bind off. Swatch 4 With worsted weight yarn and US 8 needles, cast on 19 stitches and work in stockinette stitch for 4", end ready to knit, do not bind off but leave stitches on needle or stitch holder. |
