All Things Cabled with Christine Bylsma
Whether you have never cabled before or you are already proficient, there will be cabling fun for everyone. We will explore all types of cables — basic, traveling, non-committal, reversible, complex, and even faux cables as we all become comfortable with the charts and the terminology.
Explore creating your own cables armed with some unconventional design tools, charting basics, and stitch book examples and photos for inspiration. Create design teams if you like. Then swatch your creations to see how they look in real life.
If you love jigsaw puzzles you will love designing your own custom Aran sweater, scarf, wrap, hat — whatever you like. Put all those cable designs and swatches you created to work as you learn to combine motifs, measure gauge, add filler stitches, and develop your own pattern. It’s a lot easier than it sounds and so much fun.
Cables present their own unique issues when it comes to finishing. Learn when to end a cable (or not), how to bind off cables so they don’t flare, seaming to match cables, blocking and other finishing techniques so important to enhancing your beautiful knitting.
Smooth, light-colored worsted or Aran weight yarn for swatching and needles in a few appropriate sizes, cable needle(s) of your choice, stitch holders, scissors, tape measure, calculator, pencil, eraser, notebook, a favorite cable pattern book, photos or pattern.
