Stripe It Rich with Melissa Leapman
Want to play with color? In this hands-on workshop, explore several interesting multicolor stitch patterns that are based on simple stripes. Using just one color per row, you'll create tuck stitches, dropped stitches, and more. The techniques are easy, but the results are dramatic!
Six homework swatches; 5mm/US 8 knitting needles; 4 or 5 shades of solid worsted weight yarn (try to include light, medium, and medium-dark colors for lots of choices in class); scissors; pencil.
With #4 (worsted-weight) yarn and 5mm/US 8 needles, work the following swatches.
Swatches 1 and 2: Cast on 19 sts. Work k1, p1 rib for 1". Slip sts onto holder.
Swatch 3: Cast on 23 sts. Work k1, p1 rib for 1". Slip sts onto holder.
Swatch 4: Cast on 19 sts. Work k1, p1 rib for 1". Then, purl across one row. Slip sts onto holder.
Swatch 5: Cast on 19 sts. Work k1, p1 rib for ½". Then, work 6 rows of Stockinette stitch, ending after a purl row. Slip sts onto holder.
Swatch 6: Cast on 19 sts. Knit 6 rows of Garter stitch (knitting all sts each row). Slip sts onto holder.
