A New Line-up for Socks with Lorilee Beltman
Let's spice up your sock-knitting! Pump up the color and design with some vertically stranded color work. It's fitting for socks because it does not inhibit the elasticity of the fabric. Learn how to add and manage the strands to allow for carefree knitting. Then, using the instructor's pattern provided, we'll spend half of our class time starting the sock and getting as far as possible under the teacher's care to feel confident finishing at home. You'll find your creative juices flowing as you realize the many applications of this technique.
Note: You must have knit a sock.
_100 - 150 grams-fingering weight yarn intended for sock knitting. Select a solid or semi-solid color
_Needle (see homework) to achieve desired gauge. Knitter's choice of DPNs, two circulars, or one long circular for magic loop knitting
With your selected solid or semi-solid fingering weight sock yarn, swatch for a needle size that makes for a sturdy sock fabric at about 28 - 32 stitches per 4" (10 cm). Bring your swatch to class so we can select the proper sock size. Work 64 - 72 stitches in the round for about an inch in stockinette stitch. Bring swatch to class live on the needles--do not bind off.
