Ribbing doesn’t have to be your only option for starting a garment when there are so many fun and lovely alternatives. Learn these amazing yet hard-working cast-ons, hems, and decorative starts to give your garments new personality and admiring comments of “How did you do that?”

Supplies
Smooth, light-colored, #4 (worsted-weight) yarn and contrast color in same yarn; appropriately sized needles and needles several sizes smaller

Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.

Homework
Cast on 30 sts with smooth, light colored worsted weight yarn. Knit (garter) 6 rows. Leave sts on needle with yarn attached.
