Mysterious Illusion Knitting with Karen Frisa
Unlock the mysteries of illusion knitting (also called shadow knitting). This fabric looks like stripes, but can reveal a secret image when viewed from the side. Using garter stitch and stockinette stitch, we'll learn to create the fabric's interesting texture—which is what creates the image. We'll look at two different ways to chart illusion patterns while working a swatch to practice the techniques.
Worsted or DK weight smooth yarn in two strongly contrasting colors; needles in a size to make a somewhat firm fabric; stitch markers; something to mark your place on a chart; crochet hook; smooth waste yarn for a provisional cast-on. (If unsure about needle size, check the ballband for a clue. If still unsure, try worsted weight yarn and size 6 needles.)
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
