Creating FAB Fabrics: Unlocking your Inner Textile Designer with Shannon & Jason Mullett-Bowlsby
If you are interested in learning how to create new and exciting stitch patterns that result in creating FAB fabrics for your projects, you should be in this class. Whether you are fairly new at wielding a hook or if you are carrying around the experience of a crochet sage, this class will shed new light on how we create custom fabrics for our garments and home décor designs and will give you the
knowledge and skills for creating your own custom crochet fabrics. What it’s all about!
Whether you’re making a scarf, an afghan, a dress, or a cardi; good fabric makes or breaks a design. No matter how good the design concept is, if the fabric isn’t right, the design just isn’t going to work.
While there are many factors regarding fiber content and the type of yarn that are important in creating fabrics, we’re going to concentrate on the foundation for all fabrics: the stitches!
We’re going to start at the beginning with some strong base stitches that you will probably already know and evolve those stitches step-by-step into fabrics that are as different as tree bark and tapioca. To accomplish this feat, we will uncover the basic principles of textile design and apply those to our crochet stitches and follow a natural evolutionary course to develop surprisingly
different fabrics based on the original stitches.
Then, we’ll work on some stitches that you might not be so familiar with and apply the same principles to them resulting in unique and FAB custom fabrics made by your own two hands!
By the time we’re finished, you will have an understanding of how to create fabrics from the inside out and you will have the tools for experimenting with designing custom fabrics of your own! Remember those choose your own
adventure books we all loved when we were kids (and some of us still do)?
This is like choose your own adventure for crochet stitches! Pick a stitch, add a variation element based on what type of fabric you want, and you’re on your way to creating your own beautiful custom crochet fabrics.
