Color Confidence with Handpainted Yarns with Jennifer Miller
If you’ve got a few (or many)skeins of lovely handpainted yarn, but don’t know what to do with them, this class is for you! Jennifer, a designer of hand-dyed yarns, will show and teach the most spectacular ways to show off your special skeins. This class covers fearless color combining, innovative ways to work with two or more skeins of contrasting handpaints, color theory, and more. We will focus on the creation of socks and shawls, as well as mitts and scarves.

Participants will learn to visualize how a handpainted, multi-color skein will knit up, how to work with long and short color repeats, and to explore the stitches that avoid unsightly color pooling and flashing. We’ll practice several stitch patterns and their variations that show off multi-colored yarn, including chevron, linen stitch, mitered square, and feather and fan. You’ll leave with beautiful examples of knitted handpaints, as well as the confidence and resources to create lovely pieces on your own! This is an intermediate class, intended for participants who are relatively proficient knitters.

Supplies
A skein or two of handpainted #3 (fingering-weight) yarn, 3.5, 3.75 and 4mm/US 4, 5 and 6 straight or double pointed needles.

Homework
Wind yarn into a ball or cake before class begins.
