Hello Hexies Mug Rug with Mickey Depre
Discover the magic of English Paper Piecing Hexagons by hand.
Yes, HEXIES by hand are the perfect go-anywhere project! This popular method of piecing allows you to be creative with fabric and have perfect results—the first time. Learn to build the most traditional of EPP designs—the hexie flower.
Mickey covers the basics of making and joining hexies, then shows you how to complete a 7.5” mug rug. Variations will be discussed so each student will truly make the project their own and go home with ideas for lots more hexies.
Note: Bring a thimble if you use one, but no previous hand-sewing experience is necessary.
Material fee: $7 for Hexagon Papers, thread sample, thimblepad, and fusible Pellon.
Thread for basting (an odd spool you wish to use up; a bright contrasting color is best); thimble; scissors for fabric cutting (a blade at least 5-6" in length).
OPTIONAL: Clover Table-Top Needle Threader and a portable OTT light (several will be available in the classroom.
Fabric A: SIX 3.5" squares
Fabric B: ONE 3.5" square (center of rug)
Backing Fabric: 9" square
Please have fabrics cut before class so we can begin immediately working on the project. With this step done at home you will not need to bring any cutting tools other than fabric mentioned below. If you wish, cut one extra of each 3.5" square in case there is a mishap when trimming down.
