The Quilts of Half-Scrap Quilts: A Taste of Simply Midwest with Mickey Depre
This complex-looking quilt is simply made using ONE quilt block for the entire quilt. The block, Village Square, is recolored to make a scrappy traditional checkerboard center setting and then recolored again to make the border.
Strips of fabric are sewn, cut, and sewn again for this fun block. Let me show you how the Easy Angle Ruler will become the tool you can't live without for accurate half-square triangles.
Quilters, from confident beginners to advance, will enjoy this workshop. Now gather up your 2" strips because we have some blocks to make! Whether you go on to make a table runner or the full quilt.
A bonus table runner design using the blocks of this quilt will be provided to each student. Spend time with small amounts of fabric learning all about the Village Square block, tips and tricks of contruction, and the Easy Angle before you tackle a runner or a full-size quilt.
Note: Sewing machines provided for use in the classroom.
Rotary ruler—best size is 6" x 12" for general cutting.
Easy Angle Ruler.
Includes needles and thread, sharp scissors, seam ripper, notebook, pen or pencil with eraser, flexible tape measure, and pins, and rotary cutter and mat.
NOTE: Half-Scrap Quilts book is required.
Book will be available to workshop attendees at $20. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to guarantee a book and/or Easy Angle Ruler is waiting for you at the workshop.
The goal in class is to make a scrappy Village Square block or two. Fabric yardage is somewhat open-ended; feel free to bring more...never bring less.
A BONUS table runner pattern will be given at the time of the workshop. I am a firm believer in trying out a pattern and learing the construction tips while making a few blocks in the workshop. These blocks can be used in the bonus pattern or the start of a full-size quilt. So feel free to truly bring scraps vs cutting into yardage for these workshop learning blocks.
MOST IMPORTANT SUPPLY: A sense of Humor and a smiling face. We are going to spend some time sewing (and possibly swapping) fabric with a bunch of new friends. The ability to listen, laugh, and learn will make it a success for all who walk through the door!
PREPARE FABRIC: (15-20) 2" x 22" strips*. This 22" is a MINIMUMl strips can be longer. Make sure you have a good variety of colors, values, and prints and have some lights for backgrounds.
*If you plan to use 2.5" strips—please cut them down to 2" before the workshop.
