Adding an edging to a piece of fabric increases stability, as well as creating an opportunity for embellishment. Learn how to pick up stitches properly, so that the edging is firm, secure, and beautiful. Explore the best stitch patterns for edging a garment, and use I-cord to create both edging and buttonholes.
Extra swatch yarn to use for edging, and knitting needles 2-3 sizes smaller than used for swatch. If your edging yarn does not match the swatch, it should be a close approximation of fiber and weight.
Knitting Basics include sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles and crochet hooks of various sizes.

Bring a knitted swatch approximately 4" square. Stockinette is suggested, but any swatch you wish to put a border on is appropriate, and you are welcome to bring more than one swatch to class.
