Hello Hexies Mug Rug with Mickey Depre
Discover the magic of English Paper Piecing Hexagons by hand.
Yes, HEXIES by hand! The perfect go-anywhere project. This simple, traditional quilting method allows creative use of fabric that you may have never considered before. This introductory workshop covers basic methods of construction. You will complete a "Mug Rug" that measures approximately 7.5". Variations will be discussed so each student will truly make the project their own.
Note: Bring a thimble if you use one, but no previous hand-sewing experience is necessary.
Material fee: $7 for Hexagon Papers, thread sample, thimblepad, and fusible pellon.
Thread for basting (an odd spool you wish to use up; a bright contrasting color is best); thimble; scissors for fabric cutting (a blade at least 5-6" in length).
OPTIONAL: Clover Table-Top Needle Threader and a portable OTT light.
Sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with an eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles & crochet hooks of various sizes.
Fabric A: SIX 3.5" squares
Fabric B: ONE 3.5" square (center of rug)
Backing Fabric: 9" square
Please have fabrics cut before class so we can begin immediately working on the project. With this step done at home you will not need to bring any cutting tools other than the scissors mentioned below. If you wish, cut one extra of each 3.5" square in case there is a mishap when trimming down.
