Japanese Fingerless Mitts by Hitomi Shida with Gayle Roehm
Knitters who love beautiful stitch patterns are delighted with the "Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible: 260 Exquisite Designs by Hitomi Shida," recently published in English. Join the translator to knit the fingerless mitts from this book, and gain experience and insight into the complex charts and symbols. We'll start the first mitt in class, practicing chart-reading and some of the more complex maneuvers, to be sure you can finish the project later at home. The pattern will be provided; you don't need to purchase the book ahead of time.
Note: You must be comfortable knitting in the round from charts.
__Approximately 200 yards of DK-weight wool or wool-blend yarn, preferably in a light color
__Sets of double-pointed needles in US sizes 4 and 6 (3.5mm and 4.0mm); you may want to have a couple of additional sizes to get gauge, especially if you're a tight or loose knitter.
__Small amounts of smooth waste yarn.
__Knitting Basics including sharp scissors, notebook, pen or pencil with eraser, stitch markers, blunt tapestry needles (large and small), flexible tape measure, small calculator, and needles and crochet hooks of various sizes.
Make a gauge swatch, choosing yarn and needles that give you a gauge of 23 sts and 31 rows to 4" in stockinette.
