Combining Fabrics with Knit and Crochet with Susan Lazear
Learn how to combine a fabric with yarn to create a mixed-media project. This hands-on class will teach you how to measure and create a square-armhole-style garment. Bring fleece, wool, or other fabric of similar weight. We will plan knit or crochet sleeves and a collar or scarf to complete it. Students will measure each other, draft their pattern, then combine yarn and stitch pattern (knit or crochet) to coordinate with the fabric. Various design concepts and combination techniques will be discussed in class.

Supplies
__Measuring Tape
__Paper scissors
__Fabric Scissors
__Adhesive tape
__Ruler (the longer the better, 18” gridded ruler is ideal)
__French curve (if you own one)
__Pencils
__Needle and thread
__Pins
__Fabric that you would like to work with.
You will need at least a swatch of your fashion fabric, but you are welcome to bring the entire piece. (You will generally need two times the desired length of the garment you would like to make, assuming the width will go around half your body.)
If you would like to test the pattern in an inexpensive fabric first, bring some muslin or sweatshirt fleece to cut a prototype garment.
__Sample yarns you are thinking of combining with the fabric OR plan to shop the market. _Needles to work with the yarn
__Pattern Paper, if you have, you may bring. Otherwise, Susan will have some for purchase.
