Sideways Lace Shawls with Sivia Harding
Sideways crescent-shaped shawls are great fun to knit and provide an easy introduction to designing. You will choose between a few options to begin your crescent shape, then we choose a knitted-lace edging to showcase in your shawlette. We will discuss lace stitches particular to edgings and how they may be portrayed in charts. We also discuss placements of beads within your lace design.
Students receive the benefit of Sivia's years of experience in designing exceptional beaded lace.
_Approximately 400-800 yards #1 (fingering-weight) yarn for shawl, depending on the size you wish to make. A lighter shade in a solid or shaded solid colorway will help to see your stitches.
_3.75/US5 or 4mm/US6-24" circular needle
_Stitch markers in 2 colors
_Beads (optional at least 200-300) Size 6/0 seed beads, preferably Japanese for the larger inner hole
_Small steel hook, 0.75 mm (14 US) for placing beads
_Knitting Basics: Sharp scissors, Notebook, Pen or pencil with eraser, Stitch markers, Tapestry needles (large and small), Tape measure, Small calculator, Needles and crochet hooks of various sizes.
