The Answer to "Y" Seams: Easy-Pieced Hexagons: piecing angles using die-cuts with Ebony Love
Do you avoid machine-pieced hexagons because you dread the Y-seam? Learn how to achieve these six-sided shapes with only straight-line seams and strip piecing and, of course—if it can't be die cut, Ebony isn't making it, so you will die cut the pieces. Then you'll discover how those cuts remove the guess-work from aligning angled shapes. Make fast work of this 10” square-friendly project and leave class with all your pieces cut and several rows of your quilt pieced. Depending on color placement, your future hexagon-based designs can be intricate or improvisational.
Note: Must have experience piecing an accurate 1/4" seam.
Note: Die cutter and sewing machines provided for in-class use.
To complete a 39" x 40" quilt top, you'll need one layer cake, (42) 10" assorted squares. (Consider replacing some fabrics in the bundle with other solids or prints to add more contrast and variety.) OR if you prefer to work from yardage, you will need approximately 3-3/4 yards of assorted fabrics cut into (33) 3" x 40" strips and (11) 1" x 40" strips.
Please prepare your fabric strips prior to class to make the best use of class time.
_Patchwork Basics: Needles, Thread, Sharp scissors, Notebook, Pen or pencil with eraser, Tape measure, Seam ripper, Pins, Rotary cutter and mat
If using a layer cake, cut each 10 square into (3) 3" strips and (1) 1" strip.
