Focus on the Improv Block with Cindy Grisdela
Make an Improv Block the focus of your next composition: we will build the log cabin block using improv technique and small fabric pieces (scraps will work or even a charm pack). Then we'll discuss different ways to set the block into an interesting background design. Border options will complete the process- they may be curved strips or asymmetrical open spaces. It is completely up to you!
This process can be adapted to any size quilt and can go anywhere your imagination dares to take you.
Note: Sewing machines provided for use in the classroom.
__Assorted 1" to 5" wide strips and scraps of cotton fabrics for Blocks in solids, batiks, tone-on-tone, small-scale prints (avoid large prints), or a combination
__ A few 2" to 5"x 21" strips for Inset or Curved strips.
Note: If you don't have strips and scraps handy, you may bring fat quarters, charm packs, layer cakes, or jelly rolls.
__Low-loft batting, 20" x 40" piece for use as a design wall
__1/2 yard neutral (or solid) fabric for background.
__Patchwork/Quilting Basics: Needles, Thread, Sharp scissors, Notebook, Pen or pencil with eraser, Tape measure, Seam ripper, Pins, Rotary cutter and mat
