So easy and so perfect for every kid's head! You'll love this confidence builder in self-striping yarn, like the one shown, or in stripes of your own design. Just tie on a new color when you're ready for something new.

The Skill

There is nothing in this project that you can't do if you knit the things in the earlier months. It's knit in the round (on circular needles) and uses "knit 2 together" stitches at the top to bring it all together.

You will need:

  • Medium weight yarn, but almost anything will work, be creative!
  • Size 10 circular needles, 16"

Cast on 62 stitches. If you tend to cast on tight, do this on larger needles, like size 13 needles, then switch to size 10 with the first knit round.

Knit about 50 rounds.

Closing the top
Knit 2 stitches together (k2tog) until you have 9 or 10 stitches left. It will be about 3 rounds to bring the number of stitches that low. Then break your yarn with about 10 inches to work with. Thread the yarn tail through the leftover stitches and knot.
