Camp STITCHES Update

Hello!

Natalie Sorenson, our XRX web editor, has kindly allowed me to use our XRX Insider newsletter to let you know what is going on in the STITCHES world.

We’re back (and mostly rested) from our very successful STITCHES West 2007 Expo in Santa Clara, CA. It was a very busy week and we had a lot of fun. Right now, STITCHES Midwest 2007 in Chicago, IL registration is open and we’re working on the program for STITCHES East 2007 in Baltimore, MD. But that’s not really why I wanted to talk with you today.

As most of you know this is my 1st year as the STITCHES Event Director and in the last 6 months I have learned a lot. One of the things I have learned is that we haven’t always done a very good job explaining to you about all the things we are doing. This is evident in the phone calls and the e-mails that we receive asking us questions about STITCHES. I would like to take this opportunity to answer the most frequently asked question that Julie (our STITCHES Registration Coordinator) and I are asked:

What is the difference between camp STITCHES
and our main STITCHES EXPOS?

Besides the obvious, 10’s of thousands of people come to our STITCHES Expos to enjoy all that they have to offer. The camp experience is more intimate with fewer students, stimulating, yet relaxing. Three-day workshops give you time to learn new concepts, strengthen current skills, and even design your own creations. Yet, you can enjoy some peace and quiet, and leave relaxed and rejuvenated.

The Camp experience is designed as a vacation made just for a “knitter”—no hotel reservations, and no planning. There are things for everyone to do and to find something for everyone to enjoy. All you need to do is get yourself to the airport destination and we will do the rest.

Currently we have two Camps that are coming up…
Camp Lake Junaluska, Asheville, NC
April 21-25, 2007

Camp Asilomar, Monterey Peninsula, CA
June 14-18, 2007

Since our Camp at Lake Junaluska, NC is coming up first in April… let me tell you a bit about it. As our guest, you’ll stay at the delightful Lambuth Inn, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nestled in the Great Smokies, the Inn provides a spectacular view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Center provides a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere that will put you at ease. In your free time, enjoy a walk along the lakeshore, knit in the lounge areas, or even enjoy a canoe ride in the afternoon!

If this sounds like fun we’d very much like you to join us in NC. Some of our classes are full and have been closed. But we do have openings in the following classes…

Entrelac: From the Beginning to Endless Possibilities
Gwen Bortner (LJ-01)

Intense Look at Color
Laura Bryant (LJ-02)

Draping a Pattern
Lily Chin (LJ-03)

Seven Things that can Make or Break a Sweater
Margaret Fisher (JL-04)

Designing
Barry Klein (LJ-05)

Bags with Pizzaz
Ellen Minard (LJ-07)

Beaded Floral Paneled Vest
Judy Pascale (LJ-08)

If this sounds great but April just won’t work, you might enjoy our summer Camp STITCHES at Asilomar in June—situated just yards from the magnificent sandy beaches of Monterey Bay!

As our guest, you’ll share one of the comfortable hotel-style cottages within the resort Conference Grounds. Asilomar provides a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. In your free time, enjoy a walk along the beach, sit & knit in the lounge areas, or even take a quiet drive along 17-Mile Drive!

If you’re interested in either (or both) of these great knitting experiences you can download the Camp Lake Junaluska and Camp Asilomar brochure in PDF format.

We look forward to putting our feet up and
knitting a few rows with you!

See you soon!

Tracy Petersen, Stitches Director
