About the Pictures, by the photographer...
If you are a photographer, New Mexicoand especially the area in and around the Ghost Ranch, site of the Stitches 2003 Campis a paradise. You can simply aim the camera in any direction, and a wonderful picture results. Though dusty at times, the air 1.3 miles above sea level is thin enough to make the light seem more full-spectrum. This makes the colors even more vivid. In addition, the desert's aridity eliminates the haze of the more humid low lands allowing clear images of impossibly vast distances. The natural formations of the land, themselves painted in such improbable colors, are further set off and complemented by a sky of breathtaking azure. More subtly, the plant life is at first glance hardy and seemingly drab, but a closer look reveals colors of unexpected depths and complexity. Finally, there is the mutability of the light: aim the camera, make the shot, wait five minutes, aim in the same direction, and you'll find that the sun and the clouds will have painted your first image with an entirely new palette. I wish I possessed better abilities to describe these things, but I think the images themselves will make my points for me.
I hope you will enjoy these pictures of the majestic vistas of northern New Mexico as much as I enjoyed taking them. Please feel free to share this web site with friends. If you have any comments or suggestions, I hope you will let me know.
Best wishes!
