Seasons Greetings from everyone at Knitter's Magazine!
Between Knitter’s Magazine, XRX Books projects, and STITCHES Expo events, this year seems to have flown by, and we find ourselves winding down the last few weeks of another great year.
One of my favorite design projects of 2011 was a special request. My friend, Debbie Macomber, asked me to design and knit a scarf in her Blossom Street Collection Gerbera Print from Universal Yarn for her new Hallmark Channel movie. This little diversion was fun, as I was given few guidelines other than “clean and simple” from the costume designer.
You can see the result, the Trading Christmas Scarf, in the Hallmark Channel movie, Trading Christmas adapted from Debbie’s book When Christmas Comes.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, Faith (Gabrielle Miller) wears the scarf pretty much anytime she is outside in the film. There is a great scene during the snowball fight when Charles (Tom Cavanagh) has writer's block and engages Faith (wearing the scarf) and the Kennedy kids in a snowball fight to get his creative juices flowing again. But please don’t worry—no scarves were harmed during the filming of that snowball fight.
And in the holiday spirit… we’re offering this pattern to you for FREE. You can download this one page PDF by clicking on the image to the right.
This is a fun, colorful knit. It only takes a couple of evenings to create and makes a beautiful last-minute holiday gift or final touch for your winter coat. The 2-row rib is quite simple and easy to remember.
So get knitting and know that we appreciate everyone in our knitting family—our loyal readers, designers, advertisers, and yarn shop owners and their employees.
Thanks for your support. I wish you a Happy Holiday Season and peaceful New Year. May joy follow you through the upcoming year.
Warmly,

Rick Mondragon

"I feel both blessed and honored to have Rick Mondragon design a pattern for my latest Hallmark Channel movie, TRADING CHRISTMAS. And, really, I can't think of a better way to add my own special touch to one of my movies. With this scarf pattern I'm able to share my passion for knitting and my passion for storytelling. I consider that a win/win all the way around!"
