pfdHello Fiber Friends!

STITCHES Midwest 2012 in Schaumburg, IL is only two weeks away. As usual, the STITCHES Midwest 2012 Show Book is now online – and we have four download options for you. You can download the 80 page 25 Mb Show Book in zipped PDF format (complete with bookmarks & hyper-links) or you can view the Show Book as separate JPEG files on our Knitting Universe Facebook page, Knitting Universe Google+ page, or as a set on Flickr.

And, of course, we’ll have plenty of free printed Show Books at the Market entrance in two weeks…but, why wait!?

Within the pages of the Show Book, you’ll find not only a guide to vendors with the most amazing assortment of yarn, needles, buttons and notions (including a three page section just for crocheters); but also all the ‘happenings’ – featuring some of the most inspiring people in the Knitting Universe at STITCHES Midwest.

paradeDid we mention that Elephants will be invading STITCHES Midwest this year? Yup! In the past year the STITCHES family became acquainted with Cee Cee Creech. Cee Cee’s story inspired us so much we just had to share her with you! When Joplin, Missouri was devastated by tornadoes over a year ago and thousands lost their homes, Cee Cee (then only 8 years old) wanted to help. She knew children had lost their toys and stuffed animals and needed something to give them hope. She turned to her knitting. One month later, she had knit 13 elephants for the children. As the story took hold on Facebook she raised over $3000 in pledges for the relief efforts. Elephants Remember Joplin had begun. Join Cee Cee and Drew Emborsky (a.k.a. The Crochet Dude™) who are co-hosting Knit-and-Crochet-along at 11:15 on Friday, August 10. Space is limited and advance reservations are required, so sign up by July 31 to reserve your cute little pachyderm kit and get knitting with Cee Cee or crocheting with Drew at this special event.

Speaking of elephants… on pages 64-65 you’ll see that our wonderful Sponsors have donated some of their best yarn for a Knitted Elephant Silent Auction. Cee Cee knitted up these cute little critters herself, and they’ll be on display in the market so you can bid on these one-of-a-kind knit elephants.

All proceeds from the purchase of the Elephant Kits for the Parade of Elephants and the Elephant Silent Auction will be given to Cee Cee’s favorite charity, Homes of Hope Joplin, which builds homes in Joplin for those who lost theirs in the devastating tornadoes of 2011.

ticketsOh… one last tip. If you aren’t signed up for any of the STITCHES classes, Special Events, or Market Sessions, we want to remind you that you can purchase your Market tickets online and save a few dollars and lots of time. Do you remember the long lines last year? Some of you waited in line for half an hour. You don’t have to go through that! Just click on the Ticket icon (to the left) and the ticket store will walk you through the process. With your printed ticket in hand, you can go directly to the door, have your ticket scanned, and start shopping right away!

That’s all for now. We can’t wait to see you at STITCHES!
