Hello Fiber Friends!
We have some very big news and we wanted to share it with you as soon as we could!
In just a few weeks, STITCHES South brings us back to Atlanta, GA where we’re excited to see our Southern fiber friends once again. What many of you may not know is that we are very fortunate to have the help and partnership of the Atlanta Knitting Guild and the North Georgia Knitting Guild, not only to promote the show, but also to inspire us with their enthusiasm and wonderful acts of philanthropy and public service programs.
The knitters and crocheters from all over the South are among the finest (and friendliest) people I have ever met. With that in mind, I co-wrote a letter with Atlanta Knitting Guild President, Marian Rose, and North Georgia Knitting Guild President, Jolie Elder, to Governor Nathan Deal of the great state of Georgia telling him just how we felt. In that letter we asked him to recognize not only the guilds for their public service, but also all the knitters and crocheters of Georgia.
I am so pleased and proud to tell you that Governor Deal agreed with us!
On Wednesday, April 11, 2012, Governor Nathan Deal will be issuing an executive proclamation naming Saturday, April 14, 2012 as statewide knitting and crochet day.
This is, as far as we know, the first time that the highest executive of any state in our Union has ever acknowledged knitters and crocheters—not to mention naming a day for us statewide. This is not just a victory for the Guilds and for knitters and crocheters of Georgia; it’s a victory for us all. This acknowledgement celebrates and elevates the entire industry and our craft!
So we’re asking you to help us spread the news, AND asking you to join us on the Capitol steps in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, April 14, 2012. The Georgia Knit and Crochet Day Rally will be from 11 am — 2 pm. If you’re able to celebrate this historic event with us, we want you there!
Bring your knitting. Bring your crochet. Most importantly, bring your pride—that’s what this day is all about! We’d love to see thousands (from all over the South and from across our great nation) crowding the Capitol steps in show of appreciation to Governor Deal for his recognition of the knitters and crocheters of Georgia! This is our moment! Spread the word—statewide and nationwide.
Thank you. See you in Atlanta!
All my best,
