Most of us knit or crochet to relax. What do you do?
Cook!

What's the most unlikely place you've ever knitted or crocheted?
So many weird places, it's kind of hard to narrow it down, really.

Which knitting and crochet luminaries (living or dead) would you invite to a dream dinner party?
Elizabeth Zimmermann (I bet she's going to be going to a LOT of parties thanks to these questionnaires!), Alice Starmore, Richard Rutt, Clara Parkes, Veronik Avery and Lily Chin, because Lily is HILARIOUS

Tell us about your most unusual teaching experience.
Teaching drop-spindling on a cruise ship headed towards the Caribbean. The ship was listing from side to side (and the spindle was going back and forth like a grandfather clock); it was one of the worst passages the boat had ever had, and I was violently ill for much of it!

What's your favorite tool in your knitting bag? Why?
DPNs, I use them more often as cable needles or i-cord makers or (insert huge list here) than I do as DPNs proper!

What's the latest knitting or crochet technique you learned that rocked your world?
It may not fall under "latest," but Lily Chin's knit-in shank buttons are a marvel.

When you look at another designer's work, what makes you say "wow"?
Stitch patterns that I have no patience for personally! I have a real weakness for "TV knitting" that I'm trying to overcome, give me something simple knit in the round and I am just so, so happy.

Have you ever seen one of your designs on someone "in the wild"? What's that feeling like?
Yes, and I inevitably want to pet the person in question!

As a famous knitting (or crochet) teacher, you must travel a lot.  Do you have any secret airport vices you'd like to share?
The sushi joint at the Detroit airport is SO GOOD. Just thinking about it makes me hungry.

One last thing, what are you most looking forward to about STITCHES?
Seeing all my students in class, I learn from them as much as they learn from me sometimes! And seeing them get excited is just the greatest thing ever.
