Most of us knit or crochet to relax. What do you do?
I watch movies. Lots of them!

What's the most unlikely place you've ever knitted or crocheted?
Hmm. Maybe not so unlikely for plain knitting, but I have bead knitted on airplanes, trains, cars, and buses, a pretty mean feat if I say so myself!

Which knitting and crochet luminaries (living or dead) would you invite to a dream dinner party?
Mary Walker Phillips, Mary Thomas, EZ, and Joyce Williams for the long-ago ones. Of the living, I would invite Cat Bordhi and whatever friends she might care to bring!

Tell us about your most unusual teaching experience.
I taught a weekend retreat recently in Napa Valley that was actually at a winery estate. They gave us all the wine we could drink. Need I say more?

What's your favorite tool in your knitting bag? Why?
My little steel crochet hook, because it beads like a demon!

What's the latest knitting or crochet technique you learned that rocked your world?
Jared Flood's take on the ssk, a variation on the "slip one as if to knit, one as if to purl" method that Meg Swanson performs. Like Meg's, it forms a lovely, smooth left leaning line, yay!!

When you look at another designer's work, what makes you say "wow"?
Cleverness and elegance in shaping or overall design.

Have you ever seen one of your designs on someone "in the wild"? What's that feeling like?
It's an incredible ego boost for sure!!

As a famous knitting (or crochet) teacher, you must travel a lot.  Do you have any secret airport vices you'd like to share?
I am such a boring traveler. I am excited when I am at an airport with free wifi and easy-to-find plug in sockets. I suppose my biggest vice is Powell's books in the Portland airport. I can't walk by without going in and buying a book!

One last thing, what are you most looking forward to about STITCHES?
My awesome students, of course!
