Most of us knit or crochet to relax. What do you do?
As a new home owner, I enjoy spending time in my yard, pulling the odd weed and pretending that I am gardening âº. When I knit, I enjoy listening to movies or audio books (I never did get through Anna Karenina on my own but having David Horovitz read it to me on my iPad is a treat!).
Which knitting and crochet luminaries (living or dead) would you invite to a dream dinner party?
Betsy Hershberg, Kit Hutchin, Vivian Höxbro, Emma Jacobsson, and Sally Melville.
Tell us about your most unusual teaching experience.
Giving a lecture on Bohus Stickning to 125 needlework professionals in Tokyo in the summer of 2009.
Whatâs the latest knitting or crochet technique you learned that rocked your world?
Blended Intarsia (an âunventionâ by my friend Susan Newhall). The way in which Susan combines technique and colorwork is truly amazing!
When you look at another designerâs work, what makes you say âwowâ?
Clean lines, interesting shapes, fun use of color, and immaculate finishing.
Have you ever seen one of your designs on someone âin the wildâ? Whatâs that feeling like?
Perhaps not truly in the wild but my friend Ellen Silva recently won a ribbon in the Minnesota State Fair for a pair of beaded cuffs I designed. I was unreasonably excited (and I am teaching a beaded cuff class at Stitches East).
One last thing - what are you most looking forward to about STITCHES?
Thatâs easy â meeting my students and spending time with them in the classroom!
