Roy grew up in his family’s woodshop and started by sweeping floors at the age of 5. Together they have introduced many innovations to the fiber arts community. Clemes & Clemes equipment is known for being not only thoughtfully engineered but visually pleasing and durable as well. They regularly consult and instruct spinners, felters, fiber growers, and professional fiber artists in the use of drum carders and blending boards for fiber prep.

1578 No skills required Exploring the Drum Carder
Drum carders shouldn't be mystery to the fiber artist: raw fiber is fed into the carder and magically turns into a batt, or rather becomes a batt by mechanically aligning fibers.
You will begin the day by learning the history of drum carders, how they work, and why they function the way they do.
The fun continues with hands-on carding: we'll delve into the differences of woolen and worsted carding, we'll explore the various tools that make drum carding more efficient as we crank out five different batts.
The first batt will be hand cranked then we will switch over to an Electric Drive Carder for the duration of class. All materials, carders, and tools will be provided by the instructors.
