Patty Lyons is a nationally recognized knitting teacher and technique expert who is known for teaching the "why" not just the "how" in her pursuit of training the "mindful knitter". She specializes in sweater design and sharing her love of the much-maligned subjects of gauge and blocking.
Patty teaches nationally at guilds, shops and knitting shows around the country such as Vogue Knitting LIVE, and STITCHES. Her popular classes can also be found on DVD and online at Interweave, Annie's and Craftsy. She also runs wildly popular video sweater classes in her Ravelry group.
Patty designs and knitting skill articles have been published in Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits, Knit Purl, Knitter's Magazine, Cast On, Knit Style, Creative Knitting, Twist Collective and Mason Dixon Knitting where she writes a monthly knitter's advice column: "Ask Patty". Patty's designs have also been included in pattern collections from Classic Elite, Noro, Cascade, Tahki Stacy Charles, Sugar Bush and Willow Yarns.

5260 Easy Improve Your Knitting Technique
We know how to knit, but do we know how to build a perfect fabric? There's always room for improvement! Does your knitting 'row out' (your purl stitch is looser than your knit stitch), are you looking for a better way to control your gauge? What about alternative ways to tension your yarn when working with stiff yarn or slippery yarn? We'll explore ways to improve your knitting technique by looking at the most important fundamentals, like the job of the left needle tip and the right needle shaft, stitch sizing, and even the correct exit path of your stitch. We will explore edge stitches, cast-on and bind-offs and a huge array of knitting tips. The last part of the class will be open for all knitting questions (those you have put in the "bag of why"), so come with your questions and let's explore our knitting.
Note: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, know simple increases and decreases, recognize the knit and purl stitches, and be able to work them in a pattern.
Thursday 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
5147 Intermediate Patty's Knitting Bag of Tricks
There are so many wonderful knitting tricks that make our lives better. Over the years of knitting and teaching I’ve accumulated quite a few fantastic tricks. I love it when I’m teaching a class and a student declares “I love that tip!”. So, I’ve decided to dig into my knitting bag of tricks and put them all in one class. From how to do a better SSK, make matching size YOs, to how to avoid the gap at the end of a bind off, how to tighten your first stitch, how to make better neck divides, and more. Get ready to find your new favorite knitting tricks!
Note: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, know simple increases and decreases. Having knit at least one sweater or followed an accessory pattern is helpful but not required.
Friday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
1449 Intermediate A Cornucopia of Cool Color-work Techniques
If you've always wanted to explore color work knitting, this is a great place to start! Learn all the techniques of one of Patty’s most popular pattern, the Labadee Cowl. In this class we will work a mini sample and learn all the secrets like the magical "unvented" contrasting color i-cord cast on, chart reading, slip stitch knitting, lifted floats, how to knit in your tail as you go, the contrasting color i-cord bind off and sooo much more. We’ll also learn some lifesaving tips on yarn control, joggles joins, circular knitting tips, swatching in the round and even fixing mistakes. By the end of the class you'll be ready to tackle this incredibly popular pattern AND you can order the kit that includes the yarn to make the cowl, and a promo code to get the pattern (it’s included at 35% the price with the kit) it comes with 11 video tutorials so you can be reminded of everything you learned in class! Kits will be delivered on class day.
Note: Students should be comfortable working in the round on a small circumference - either dpns, magic loop or two circs, being able to control yarn with both hands helpful but not required.
Friday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
5163 Intermediate Stop Turning: Knitting & Purling Backwards
My favorite knitting trick is to stop turning! If you hate purling, are unhappy with your uneven tension, or simply aren't crazy about flipping that 400-stitch basket-weave afghan around every time it's time to do a WS row, learn the joy of never turning! We will learn how to put the knit stitch and the purl stitch in reverse, as well as learn basic decreases, short rows, and picking up stitches backwards. Knitting and purling backwards is great for entrelac, bobbles, short rows, and chart work.
Note: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, and work simple increases and decreases without supervision.
